Are You Feeling ‘Enchanted?’
April 30, 2009 · 2 Comments
In case you missed it, in last night’s presidential press conference, New York Times reporter Jeff Zeleny asked President Obama how the office has “enchanted” him.
To say nothing about the softness of the question, what kind of man on Earth asks another man if he’s feeling “enchanted?”
UPDATE: A guy like Zeleny, that’s who. He’s gay. I guess I take this back just a little, but the fact remains that a New York Times reporter asked the president if he felt enchanted…Good to see the watchdogs at work.
Obama answered, “That’s a fabulous question, Jeff. Let’s talk about it over a couple of appletinis.”
Okay, that’s not true, but still.
Really, New York Times?

Douthat’s Debut
April 28, 2009 · Leave a Comment
Meet the new kid on the New York Times op-ed page, Ross Douthat.
I first met Ross at the Oxford Centre for Religion and Public Life forum last summer, and we catch upĀ intermittently around town, and usually chat about our shared appreciation for 70s era flicks like The Parallax View and 3 Days of the Condor.
Ross was recently picked up by the Times to replace William Kristol, and his words are a refreshing splash of insight on the back pages of the Old Gray Lady.
His first column examines what would have happend if Cheney had run against Obama in 2008, which, he contends would have put the Bush style politics and policy to rest one and for all, allowing the GOP a fresh start to move on and make something of themsleves in the coming years.
We’ll see if they can pull it together anyhow.
Ross’ column will appear every Tuesday in the Times.

Heard at the West Palm Beach Rotary today,
“Every morning I wake up and read the Bible and the New York Times. That way I know what each side is up to.”
