Our Troubling Tax System

April 14, 2009 · Leave a Comment

The U.S. tax code gets more complex every year. It violates civil liberties and, left unchanged, will leave the United States at a powerful competitive disadvantage in years to come.

I guess we’ll just let the numbers speak for themselves: 70,000 pages of tax regulations. $300 billion in compliance costs.

Your taxes. Enjoy.

Obama’s Tax Plan: The Debate

March 3, 2009 · 1 Comment

Obama’s tax plan that will heavily tax those making more than $250,000 is causing an endless debate (heck, what doesn’t in this town?) After ABC News ran this report, the blog battles were in full swing.

Where’s the motivation? ‘Why make $300,000, when $250,000 is so much more?’

Jonathan Chait disagrees: The tax code doesn’t work that way

Stephen Spruiell: “Yes huh!

Chait: “Nah-Uh!

And so it goes…round and round

A Penny Saved…

February 3, 2009 · 2 Comments

UPDATE: ONLY MOMENTS AFTER I POSTED THIS, DASCHLE WITHDREW HIS NOMINATION FOR HHS.

Don’t worry, I’m taking credit for it.

Tom Daschle: $140,000 worth of pennies saved is $140,000 worth of pennies earned…or something like that.

So Health and Human Services nominee Tom Daschle didn’t pay his taxes. At least he drives a crappy car. Wait, what’s that? The taxes were over a private chauffeur? Ya don’t say.

Sheesh, even the NY Times thinks Daschle should withdraw.
